LASIK Alternatives

LASIK is one of the most popular vision correction procedures in the world, but it’s not the right fit for everyone. At nJoy Vision, we believe every patient deserves the best possible solution for their unique eyes. That’s why we offer a full range of advanced refractive surgery options. With today’s technology, there’s often another great choice if you’re not a candidate for LASIK, and our Oklahoma City (OKC) team is here to help you find it.

Why Someone Might Not Qualify for LASIK

While LASIK is safe and effective for many, certain factors can make it less suitable. Some of the most common disqualifiers include:

  • Unstable vision prescription
  • Thin or irregular corneas
  • Severe dry eye syndrome
  • Certain eye diseases such as keratoconus or advanced glaucoma
  • Uncontrolled medical conditions
  • Pregnancy or nursing

Your Alternatives at nJoy Vision

We offer several advanced procedures that may be better for patients who do not qualify for LASIK. Here’s an overview of each option.

iLASIK (Wavefront-Guided LASIK)

iLASIK, is an advanced type of LASIK that may be suitable to patients who don’t qualify for standard LASIK. It uses wavefront-guided technology to create a highly customized vision correction plan for each eye. The procedure is completely bladeless, using a femtosecond laser to create the corneal flap and an excimer laser for reshaping.

iLASIK is ideal for patients who may benefit from enhanced customization, such as those with higher prescriptions or unique corneal shapes. It combines safety, precision, and personalization for exceptional outcomes.

Lens Replacement

Also called refractive lens exchange (RLE), lens replacement involves replacing the eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to correct refractive errors. This option is often recommended for patients 45 and over who haven’t been diagnosed with cataracts.

RLE can correct presbyopia, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, and prevent cataracts from developing in the future.

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)

ICL surgery places a thin, biocompatible lens inside the eye to work with your natural lens, correcting high prescriptions without removing corneal tissue. We offer the advanced EVO ICL™ an excellent choice for patients who don’t qualify for LASIK because of severe nearsightedness or astigmatism, thin corneas, or chronic dry eye.

The lens can remain in place permanently or be removed later if needed, offering flexibility along with exceptional vision correction.

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)

PRK is a laser vision correction procedure similar to LASIK that does not involve creating a corneal flap. Instead, the outer layer of the cornea is gently removed before reshaping the underlying tissue with a laser. This approach makes PRK an excellent choice for patients with thin corneas, surface irregularities, or certain corneal conditions.

Benefits include precise vision correction, no risk of flap complications, and suitability for patients who may not be LASIK candidates. Recovery can take slightly longer than LASIK, but the long-term results are as good.
